What
is Microsoft FrontPage? |
| Microsoft
FrontPage is an Internet Web page
authoring, creation and management tool.
|
 |
Why
should I use FrontPage? |
| FrontPage
provides a simple interface for the
creation, maintenance and structuring of
Web sites. The FrontPage extensions
provide much of the functionality of
popular .cgi scripts without the
configuration issues with relative ease.
Also, FrontPage provides a means by which
to publish a Web site to a network server.
In the NT environment, FrontPage also
provides easy to use interfaces for other
Windows products, particularly those from
the Microsoft Office Suite. Database
manipulation, ActiveX elements and some
simple .asp programming may all be done
via FrontPage.
|
 |
What
factors should I consider in regards to
FrontPage? |
If
you requested that your account be setup
with FrontPage extensions there are
several factors you should keep in mind.
- In
a UNIX account you cannot use Non-Microsoft
FrontPage FTP and Frontpage98 to
upload the contents of your site.
This is because of the
permissions required by FrontPage98
and the catalog created by
FrontPage, using FTP to upload
additional pages to a Unix site
with FrontPage98 extensions will
result in those pages not being
included in the FrontPage Web.
- In
Marketwizz Internet Solutions's
implementation of FrontPage2000,
the permissions issue is
resolved, thus FTP may be used in
conjunction with FrontPage2000.
- All
NT accounts may have FrontPage 98/2000
and FTP.
- FrontPage
98/2000 may NOT be used in
conjunction with Cold Fusion on
Marketwizz Internet Solutions's
servers.
"WARNING:
Customers with Microsoft FrontPage
extensions installed on their sites
should only use the FrontPage publishing
feature to transfer their files. Using
regular FTP can corrupt the extensions,
disabling the functionality of the
FrontPage Web and requiring that the
extensions be reinstalled. This process
may cause some functions of a FrontPage
Web to cease working correctly.
|
 |
Does
it cost extra to use FrontPage?
|
| We do
not charge extra to set up new accounts
with FrontPage extensions. The extensions
are needed to run FrontPage on your
server. The only cost you will assume is
for the purchase of your copy of
FrontPage from the source of your choice.
EXCEPTIONS:
1) If you've subscribed to one of our non-FrontPage
enabled accounts and want to convert your
saved files already on the server to a
FrontPage enabled service site, there
will be a $50 transfer charge per
occurrence. OR 2) If you've subscribed to
a FrontPage enabled account and want to
convert your saved files already on the
server to a non-FrontPage enabled service
site, there will be a $50 transfer charge
per occurrence. These exceptions will
assure you that your files will remain
available to you after the conversion.
3)
You also have the option to switch from
FrontPage to non-FrontPage (or vice-versa)
and not incur the transfer charge. PLEASE
REMEMBER that this option will not
include saving or converting your
existing files on the server. In other
words, your converted account will be
empty. Meaning you will need to rebuild
your site on the server from scratch,
using the appropriate authoring tools and
uploading protocols to match the account
you've converted to.

 |
Can
I use SSL with FrontPage? How do I
activate it? |
| You
cannot use SSL within your FrontPage
account. Instead, we can create a shared
SSL account for you on a different
machine, so that your forms can be
securely accessed. Note that shared SSL
does not support FrontPage or it's
extensions as an additional security
measure. While you may not be able to use
SSL with FrontPage, or on the same
machine, the shared server arrangement
assures you of smooth data flow between
servers via your forms and any CGI's. Adjustments
to your forms may be necessary, since the
shared SSL will provide you with secure
URL's in the form of https://secure.Marketwizz
Internet Solutions.net/yourdomainname.
Also,
you will be required to upload your forms
to the secure server via FTP (as opposed
to FrontPage).
If
you prefer SSL that is not on a shared
server, you'll need to register a
certificate through either Verisign ($350).
Through this arrangement you can run the
secure server on the same machine as your
account. You can access your files via
https://www.yourdomain.com and would only
need to upload once. For more
information, please refer to the Secure
Certificate FAQ.

Can
I FTP with FrontPage? |
| Customers
with Microsoft FrontPage extensions
installed on their sites should only use

How
do I start creating a Web site in
FrontPage? |
| There
are two basic ways to create a Web site
in FrontPage (98/2000). The first is to
create the Web page on your harddrive and
publish it to the server. The second is
to create the Web page "live"
on the server.

 |
What
is a Bot? |
| This
question is best answered by Microsoft
FrontPage's Help on this topic, which
describes a WebBot component as "a
dynamic object on a page that is
evaluated and executed when an author
saves the page or, in some cases, when a
user browses to the page." The
documentation goes on to explain: "Most
WebBot components generate HTML. Many
built-in FrontPage components, such as
Search Forms, Banner Ad Manager, and Save
Results Form Handlers, are implemented as
WebBot components. The FrontPage Software
Developer's Kit (SDK) contains
instructions for adding custom WebBot
components to the FrontPage Editor."

 |
Can
I use Java Servlets within FrontPage?
|
No,
Java Servlets and FrontPage's extensions
(which are necessary components of

desirable results.
